Mitchell Trubisky Starting Against Packers, Nick Foles Listed as Doubtful
Matt Nagy officially named Mitchell Trubisky as the Bears’ starting QB for Sunday night in Green Bay, thus confirming what every has suspected for the past several days. Former starter Nick Foles, who hasn’t necessarily lost his job, has been unable to practice all week after injuring his hip and glute against the Vikings.
Trubisky told the media he had remained hopeful for another opportunity and said he’s committed to getting better so he can be in the league for a long time to come. Sounds like he’s taken a few notes during Nagy’s press conferences.
“More than anything, what means the most to me is having the opportunity to come back and be there for my guys when we need just need to find a way to win, however that is,” Trubisky said Friday.
Perhaps the only quote he offered that wasn’t right out of the idiom playbook came when he said he was “blindsided” by his benching earlier in the season. He was apparently unaware of his underwhelming performance for the last few seasons and the fact that the Bears went out and got a veteran who was already somewhat familiar with Nagy’s offense.
If nothing else, Trubisky’s athleticism offers a little hope that the QB won’t just be a sitting duck behind an O-line that has seen its share of injuries and poor performances. Speaking of which, Charles Leno is a game-time decision for Sunday’s contest.
The same is true for Akiem Hicks, who is officially listed as questionable. That would be a huge blow to a defense that absolutely must be lights-out against Aaron Rodgers and a full complement of weapons. It’ll help that Eddie Jackson has been activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list, but the Bears are going to need everyone to step up.
One way or the other, this one should be entertaining
