2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Ashton Jeanty
Ashton Jeanty Could Be the Chicago Bears’ Running Back of the Future and end up Sending the Bears into the Playoffs
The Chicago Bears have some hard decisions to make coming up over the next few days. The 2025 NFL Draft is approaching and with the number ten pick in the first round, the Bears have some flexibility. They can go for need, or they can go for the best player available. There will be a ton of talent available at the tenth spot in the draft.
One player, in particular, who could be available when the Bears make their pick in the first round is Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty. The Heisman runner-up just might be someone that the Bears take a big interest in and draft. Media outlets are reporting more consistently that the Bears are very interested in Jeanty and could do some repositioning to grab him.
But remember, the draft is mostly all talk right up to it. You never really know what teams are going to do till they pull the trigger on draft night.
The following is a look at Jeanty, his strengths and weaknesses, and what he could bring to the Bears should they draft him.

Player Introduction
The son of a military father, Jeanty and his family moved around quite often in his younger years. They ended up settling in Texas, where Jeanty played for Lone Star High School. He was a phenom in high school and a three-star recruit going into college. He played three years at Boise State for the Broncos and elected to come out into the draft after his junior year.
In the three years he played at Boise State, he played in a total of 40 games and had 750 total rushing attempts for 4769 yards. His average yards per carry over those three seasons was 6.4. Jeanty got into the end zone 50 times. He averaged 119.2 yards per game, and his longest run was 77 yards.
Jeanty is poised to be the top running back taken in this year’s draft and is going to make the team that drafts him very happy.
Strengths
There are many great things about Jeanty and his ability to play the running back position. The guy is a strong, cut, muscular individual who takes care of himself very well. His physical gifts are plenty, and he’s one of the most talented players available in the draft. In breaking it down even further, Jeanty has great vision and quick feet. Once he gets going, he is hard to stop as he has a lot of forward momentum. He stays behind his blockers, following them as they take out the opponents in front to allow him to gain a lot of yards. Jeanty can cut better than most running backs can and can do it in a small space and with no notice.
Jeanty seemingly has another gear he shifts into when he breaks away from the defense and gets into the secondary. He easily shifts and blazes away from the defender and into the end zone. He gains a lot of yards after contact and would do well in any type of scheme in any offense he lands with. Jeanty is a quick accelerator, has good balance, and can make defenders miss.
There is a lot of “good” with Jeanty
Weaknesses
Of course, there are some things that Jeanty will need to improve on. One thing that he seems to struggle with is the tiny injuries he seems to get. He is great about playing through those injuries, but those can take a toll on him in the long run. Keep an eye on his health. Some say that the level of competition that he played against, which is not as “good” as other teams in other conferences, may make struggle in the league. That’s likely not going to happen.
His workload last season was incredible and may cause him to wear out quickly in his first year in the league. However, Jeanty keeps himself in such good shape that injuries and wear and tear may not affect him nearly as much as it would some other backs. He had some issues with fumbling during his college career, including four with three lost last year. Ball security will be vital for him in the NFL. Finally, some say that he needs to work on his receiving skills, especially his ability to run effective pass routes. If he can increase his performance in the passing game, he would be an even deadlier asset on offense.
Player Projection
Jeanty is a top ten pick, perhaps even a top five selection. As teams begin to realize that the running game can be a huge asset to their offense, running backs will become more popular. Jeanty is the best of the backs in this draft.
He could go to the Raiders, but it would be ideal if he landed with the Chicago Bears.
Top Ten Pick
What He Can Do for the Bears
The Bears would be instantly much better if they grabbed Jeanty. It’s been said that they covet him and might even be willing to trade up to get him. That would be something a little out of the ordinary for the Bears (something they rarely do), but if they want their guy, they may do whatever it takes to get him. With Jeanty and D’Andre Swift, the Bears would have quite the one-two punch in the backfield. It would propel the Bears forward, possibly right into the playoffs as early as this coming season.
