Chicago Bears Score and Recap (Week 10): Patriots 19, Bears 3 – Chicago Bear-ly Shows Up Against Lowly Pats

The Bears badly needed a home win against the rebuilding Patriots Sunday afternoon following consecutive difficult losses on the road. Instead, Chicago fans were subjected to a horrible performance as New England dominated the entire game, winning comfortably 19-3.

It was yet another slow start for the Bears as they failed to score in the first quarter. The Patriots were able to put together a long drive that ended in a 30-yard field goal by Joey Slye. Chicago had their only successful offensive series halfway through the second quarter when quarterback Caleb Williams ran for a fourth down conversion and set up Cairo Santos for a game-tying 33-yard FG.

New England responded immediately with the only touchdown that was scored in the game on Sunday. The 70-yard drive was finished by a short pass from rookie quarterback Drake Maye to receiver Ja’Lynn Polk. The Pats quickly got the ball back and Slye booted a 37-yard field goal to make it a 13-3 margin at halftime

That was pretty much it as far as the Bears offense was concerned, they never even got to the red zone in the second half and Williams was sacked nine times. New England added two more fourth quarter field goals and rolled to victory. (Box score)

Why the Bears Lost

The offense has regressed badly and now is performing worse than it did in 2023. The injury riddled offensive line is getting exposed and giving Williams almost no chance to succeed.

Key Moment

The Bears got a 38-yard punt return from DeAndre Carter to begin their opening drive at the Patriots 47 yard line. They immediately went three and out, failing to take advantage of the prime opportunity and never did anything else the rest of the day.

Stats That Matter

  • Williams threw for a grand total of 120 yards and has been very bad the last three weeks.
  • The Bears have not scored a touchdown in their last 21 possessions.

Bottom Line

If last week was inexcusable for Chicago then their performance this week was a complete disaster. The Patriots are one of the worst, if not the worst team in the NFL and they easily won this game. It’s very clear the playoffs are a real long-shot at this point and a big losing streak is distinct possibility. Matt Eberflus is not coming back in 2025 and there’s a chance he’s not coming back tomorrow. Probably the best solution for everyone is to move on right now and not delay the inevitable any longer. This debacle should be the final straw.
