Chicago Bears Score and Recap (Week 14): Niners 38, Bears 13 – Chicago Shellacked in San Fran
The post-Eberflus Bears appeared to be little changed by their coach getting the ax last week. The undermanned 49ers absolutely blasted them Sunday afternoon at Levi’s Stadium, taking a 24-0 halftime lead and never looking back as they won easily.
San Francisco was firing on all cylinders from kick-off with three touchdowns in their first four possessions. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings and star tight end George Kittle were all over the field, picking up huge chunks of yardage.
Chicago’s offense was absolutely dreadful in the first half, collecting just four total yards and a single first down. Caleb Williams picked up a pair of second half touchdowns to fellow rookie Rome Odunze but the game was long over by that point the Niners took home a 38-13 victory. (Box score)
Why the Bears Lost
They completely no-showed another first quarter and this time they didn’t even fight back to make it competitive. At points it really looked like they had given up.
Key Moment
The 49ers met very little resistance on their opening drive. The Bears flat performance set the tone for the rest of the afternoon and the lifeless effort that ensued.
Stats That Matter
- Williams got sacked seven times and was under siege most of the game. Even so, it just wasn’t a very good performance for him with 134 yards passing.
- The Bears had only 68 rushing yards against a struggling Niners run defense.
- Odunze had very nice catches on his two touchdowns but they were his only receptions on the afternoon.
Bottom Line
Thomas Brown certainly did not inject any life into this squad. If anything they took a big step backwards in an absolutely moribund performance. It’s starting to feel like the Bears need to completely clean house after the season. The front office has constructed a roster that just doesn’t seem to work. Can GM Ryan Poles really be trusted to hire another new head coach? Unless something changes in a hurry, the answer appears to be no.
Next Up
The Bears head to Minneapolis for a Monday night matchup with the Vikings December 16 at 7pm CT on ABC/ESPN.
