Chicago Bears Score and Recap (Week 6): Bears 35, Jaguars 16 – Caleb and Cole Have a TD Party in London

The Bears crushed the Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Sunday for their third-consecutive victory. The defense was good yet again and Caleb Williams shined with four touchdown passes in the Chicago romp.

Jacksonville had a long drive in the first quarter that resulted in a 30-yard field goal by Cam Little. The Bears finally woke up after back-to-back three and outs when Williams hit Cole Kmet for a 31-yard touchdown pass to give his team a 7-3 lead early in the second quarter.

Chicago’s quarterback made a rare mistake getting intercepted on a deep pass but quickly atoned for it with another TD to Kmet, this one from just 2-yards out that made it 14-3 at half. The big tight end even took over long snapping duties when the normal snapper Scott Daly suffered a knee injury.

Jaguars tight end Evan Engram fumbled to begin the third quarter and Elijah Hicks recovered for the Bears. That turnover was converted into Keenan Allen‘s first touchdown of the season from 9-yards out and 21-3 advantage. Jacksonville finally got into the end zone later in the quarter when Trevor Lawrence hooked up with Gabriel Davis for a 21-yard score.

Williams and Allen connected again on a fade route at the start of the fourth quarter to increase the margin to 28-10. Josh Blackwell then intercepted Lawrence to set up a short TD run from D’Andre Swift to give Chicago a comfortable 35-10 lead.

The Jags would pick up a garbage-time touchdown but the Bears won easily 35-16. (Box score)

Why the Bears Won

Williams continues to get better every game and the defense held another opponent under 20 points.

Key Moment

The Bears forcing a fumble right out of halftime and converting it into a touchdown put the Jaguars into a hole they couldn’t get out of.

Stats That Matter

  • Williams used his arm and his legs to make things happen Sunday. He threw for 226 yards and ran for 56 more in addition to the four touchdowns.
  • Kmet had a big game with 70 yards and two touchdowns. Also, most of his snaps were pretty good.
  • Allen looked healthy with five catches for 41 yards and the TDs.

Bottom Line

This is the Bears first three-game winning streak since 2020 and they have been very impressive doing it. I think it’s fairly obvious to everyone watching that Caleb Williams is much better than the quarterbacks that came before him in Chicago. His emergence combined with a very solid defense gives this squad a decent chance to be a winning team in 2024.

Next Up

The Bears have their bye week before traveling to Washington for a Week 8 matchup against the Commanders Sunday, October 27 at 12pm CT on CBS.
